Player Bio: Pablo Maffeo

Pablo Maffeo became Valencia CF's latest signing this Thursday, bringing his experience, quality and explosiveness to the team's defensive line. The 29-year-old fullback is no stranger to the top level of Spanish football. 

He comes to Mestalla on loan after signing for Olympiacos FC in the Greek Super League this summer. Maffeo spent last season at RCD Mallorca, where he made 32 appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists. He amassed 160 appearances for the team from the Balearics across all competitions (LaLiga EA SPORTS, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Supercopa).

Maffeo initially came to prominence at youth level at Manchester City after an initial stint at RCD Espanyol B. Following seven seasons in Manchester, he had a spell with Girona FC in LALIGA HYPERMOTION, then went back to the English side and made his UEFA Champions League debut in the process.

Two more seasons on loan at Girona FC lasted until he joined VfB Stuttgart in Germany's Bundesliga, but he was back at Montilivi in 2019/20, then SD Huesca in LALIGA EA SPORTS.

His signing for RCD Mallorca in 2022 led to him appearing in over 150 official matches.

At international level, in 2013 he was capped as a youth for Spain Under-16s, then the Under-17s. In 2016 he turned out for the Under-19s, with an Under-21s debut a year later. 

As a holder of dual nationality, Maffeo has also been called up by Argentina since 2023, including the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
